week eight

This week was c r a z y!!! I moved into my parents house again because everyone I knew was suddenly testing positive, and I have an endowment + sealing appointment that is coming up fast. Therefore, I’m in Logan, Utah instead of Provo. And I left my fiancé in Provo. It’s all very tragic, of course lol

But for reals, do you guys have a person that it hurts to be away from? He’s been in quarantine all this week, and I’ve been chilling in logan, so we haven’t physically been in each other’s presence for so so long (read: literally only four days but this h u r t s). I can’t explain it properly, or in a way that sounds altogether rational. He’s just so amazing, and I miss him always. I miss holding his hand and laughing at dumb tik toks with him, and I miss his hugs and how cute he is, and everything just sucks, you know? 

But hey, lucky for media!

We’ve facetimed every day and talked about everything over text and calls with each other. It’s so comforting to know that even though I am not able to be near him, I can still talk to him and I can still see him. I’m sure a lot of you have used media to connect with loved ones, especially with the pandemic that has happened. We watched the new Mandalorian episode together while talking on the phone, and it was awesome! Even though I can’t physically see him, we were still able to watch the episode together. It was amazing and I’m so grateful for this technology that has made it possible for me to talk to my fiancé whenever I can.

    It really is such a blessing through media to be able to share moments with people who are far away from us! That has been the biggest blessing for me during this whole COVID debacle to be able to keep in touch with family that is far away. Good luck on your upcoming wedding!

    It's so amazing how media and technology can bring people together! My parents are living in Argentina right now so I feel very grateful for facetime to be able to see and talk to them. Long distance is the worst though and I hope you get to see your fiance soon!

    I am reading a book right now about media for another class. The author talks about his experience of having a long distance relationship with his future wife. This took place in the 90s so the only way they could communicate was through phone calls and letters! I just found that crazy to think about. You're right, we are so lucky to live in a time where it is so easy to stay connected with others!

    Girl! I TOTALLY feel you with the wedding craziness during Covid. My husband and I got married on August 1st and due to the pandemic, we couldn't get sealed until about a week ago. But it was absolutley AMAZING!! so you have a lot to look forward to! Good luck with the wedding planning and the endowment/sealing! Technology is such an incredible blessing in our lives, and I think the world has become much more aware of how awesome it is since the pandemic! We are so blessed to live in a time where it is so easy to call someone across the street, across the state, across the nation or even across the world!! Stay strong- you got this!

    Yes! Long distance can be sooo painful, even when it's for short periods of time. I am also so grateful for things like facetime, zoom, and texting that help people stay in touch during separation (quarantine, summer internships, etc.). Best of luck on your quarantine and on your wedding planning!

    I am the same way! Being away from your eternal best friend is TORTURE!! Even though you know you will be together forever, it still sucks when you have to be apart. But again, it is so nice that media can keep us in contact with them.

    Really though! I don't know how people managed long distance relationships at all before the invention of cell phones, texting, etc. Don't get me wrong, letters are nice, but it really just isn't the same as being able to look at the person you're talking to. Congratulations by the way!! Getting married is so exciting!! And trust me, being married is far better than being engaged! Living in the same house makes life a million times more convenient!

week two

  I watched the first half of the extended edition fellowship of the ring last night. I can’t tell you the absolute SEROTONIN that rushes into me whenever I hear the opening chorus of the soundtrack, or when Bilbo starts explaining hobbits, I really can’t express how much I adore the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Oh, it’s so flawed. However, it’s flawed in such a darling way. It tells the story of Frodo Baggins, an unassuming hobbit (tiny person with big feet, super adorable) that sets out to deliver the Ring of power to Mt Doom. Basically, he needs to destroy it. It’s so interesting to watch this movie again, and I feel like every time I re-watch it, I realize different aspects that I hadn’t noticed before.  I also love the soundtrack the movie uses. Whenever there is a moment where Frodo is feeling homesick, or he’s trying to sacrifice something, or he’s having a moment with Sam, the same song always comes on.
